If you rather want to spend the day at the beach, you can go to Folly Beach, it is located south of Downtown Charleston. The nature is beautiful and the Atlantic invites to different water activities, surfing, swimming, and much more. There is also a pier from which you can fish. Along the beach are many bars, restaurants and cafes. A few hotels are located in the area.

You can't mention Charleston without thinking about the Charleston dance, which is named after the harbor in the city. The Broadway show Runnin' Wild, in 1923, featured a song called The Charleston. Later that year the dance was introduced in a production named Liza. The dance then developed with addition of movement sequences with African-American roots. Today, the Charleston is an important dance in the culture of Lindy Hop. It can be performed solo, with a partner, or in groups of couples or solo dancers.

Transportation and commutes in Charleston, SC Almost all working Charleston residents commute to work by driving alone, or commute via carpool. The public transportation is operated by the Charleston Area Regional Transportation Authority (CARTA) who services bus lines in the urban areas. CARTA also services Downtown Area Shuttle trolleys between the historic attractions located in Downtown Charleston. Berkeley-Charleston-Dorchester Rural Transportation Management Association (TriCounty Link) services bus lines throughout the rural parts of Charleston and the rest of the metropolitan area.

Inter-city rail service is provided by Amtrak's Silver Meteor, which operates between New York City and Miami, and The Palmetto, which operates between New York City and Savannah. Charleston International Airport (CHS) is a civil and military use airport, and the main airport in the area. The airport has flights to quite a few domestic destinations, some of which are seasonal. The airport also has one seasonal international flight with destination London, United Kingdom.
